When I first pulled up to Tradewinds Paradise Villas on Pescador Drive, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect — the name sounds a bit resort-y, but this place is actually more intimate than that. It’s a four-star property that feels like someone’s well-appointed beach house, if that someone happened to have excellent taste and deep pockets. The parking situation is refreshingly stress-free here, which you’ll appreciate after navigating San Pedro’s narrow streets.

Location & Island Life

You know what really struck me about this spot? It’s positioned perfectly on Ambergris Caye — close enough to San Pedro’s action that you can walk to dinner, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with the cruise ship crowds. Pescador Drive runs along the eastern shore, so you’re literally steps from the Caribbean, and I mean that quite literally. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something about watching the sunrise over the water from your villa that just works for romance.

The Villas

Each villa feels more like a private retreat than a hotel room, honestly. The layouts are thoughtful — you’ve got space to actually unpack and settle in, which matters when you’re staying more than a night or two. What I really appreciated was the attention to airflow and natural light; these aren’t just boxes with air conditioning blasting. The interiors strike that tricky balance between tropical charm and actual comfort — you know, the kind of place where you can nap in the afternoon without feeling guilty about it.

The Beach Experience

Here’s the thing about Belize that not everyone realizes — the beaches aren’t like those powdery white sand postcards from other Caribbean spots. What you get instead is this gorgeous, clear water that’s perfect for snorkeling, and honestly, that’s way better. From Tradewinds, you can wade right out and start seeing fish within minutes. The barrier reef is close enough that you don’t need to book expensive boat trips unless you really want to. I spent hours just floating around out there, which is probably not the most productive use of vacation time, but sometimes that’s exactly the point.

The staff here gets the balance right — they’re helpful without being hovering, which can be rare in smaller properties. You’ll notice they actually remember your name after the first day, and they seem to genuinely know the island well enough to give you solid recommendations.   Central location, just a few steps from “downtown”. (No need for a golf cart, only if you want to go to Secret Beach)
  As soon as you stepped on the premises, it felt like a small slice of paradise. It is really well kept and clean. Also the apartments are huge and clean. They don’t have the modern/clean aesthetic but feel really homey.
  And let me tell you about the staff: They really care and help out with anything they can. They are super fast with replying and flexible. I was able to be put on to an earlier flight to the island and they re-organized a taxi and check in for me 1 hour early in the matter of minutes.
  I really enjoyed my stay. If you don’t want the typical resort life but more of a independent vibe, this is a great place to be.

  This was a great place to stay in San Pedro. The pool was kept immaculately clean, which was great because we were in it multiple times a day. The location is amazing. Right on the beach, steps from the ocean and there is even a dock that the hotel owns. The hotel grounds are also very beautiful. Lots of trees for shade. There are great restaurants and bars within walking distance on the beach. The staff is also excellent. If any issues arise, they respond immediately.

  Paradise Villas is located in a perfect location on the beach just a couple of minutes walking distance to great restaurants, bars, and the town of San Pedro. Although it is close to everything, the property is very private, quiet and secure. The pool is the perfect size to enjoy some sun and water too. Emmanuel, who manages the property, is a wonderful host and goes above and beyond to help you with anything you may need. Cleaning services were impeccable and they cleaned every other day. This was my third visit on the island and Paradise Villas is by far my favorite place to stay and will most definitely be staying here again on my return trip.
